DIRECTIONAL BORING

Directional Boring or Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a steerable trenchless method of installing underground pipes, conduits, and cable along a designed bore path which is predetermined through subsurface investigation and other engineering methods. HDD minimizes restoration and allows infrastructure to be installed in areas that were previously inaccessible by traditional construction equipment. The HDD process enables us to install infrastructure under interstates, railroads, lakes, rivers, parking lots, and driveways with little or no disruption. Ellingson also has the capability and experience to install “on-grade” infrastructure such as sanitary sewers, storm sewers, and drainage crossings. Through the HDD process, we are capable of providing our customer with a cost effective project that greatly reduces restoration and eliminates disturbances to the project area.

The HDD Team at Ellingson is an experienced group that takes pride in our reputation of quality. Our HDD personnel are not only trained to operate our state of the art HDD equipment, but are also trained in the theory of drilling fluids, additives, and alternative trenchless processes. An emphasis on continuing education in an industry that is constantly evolving keeps Ellingson Companies on the cutting edge of HDD industry. We have the experience and capability to install pipe ranging in diameter from 1” up to 36” with single pulls in excess of 3,500’. The HDD process enables us to install a wide variety of materials as well. Past projects have included: HDPE, PVC, DIP, steel, and copper pipe for a variety of infrastructure requirements ranging from sewer and water to gas and telecommunications
